When using colors, you will use six numbers in a row or six letters in a row.  They will range in numbers from 0-9, and letters from a-f. Example:

00.00.00   or   ff.ff.ff

When starting out, computers only had 256 colors.  They limited by this by sticking to the numbers 0,3,6,9.  The colors were created by this organization system.

00.00.00

1)The first two numbers represented now much red was in the color.

2)The second two numbers was how much green was in the color.

3)The third set represented how much blue was in their.

Having 00 was the most amount of that color you can possibly have.  Having ff having the least amount of color you can possibly have.

Example   00.00.00 is black           ff.ff.ff is white.

Now that technology is getting better, you can look to a coloring chart and manipulate (or dither) the color by changing the numbers and letters to alter the hues.  Change a 3 to a 1 to make it a tad darker.  Change a 1 to a 3 to make it a tad lighter.

You can also use a shortcut when entering your font tag for color. Example

<font color=”#oo33cc”>  =  <font color=”#03c”>

www.lynda.com/value.html  This will sort the colors from lightest to darkest.

There are 256 colors here that are considered “web-safe” colors.  There are of course other colors but these are the basic and more guarenteed to show up properly for professional cites.

Difference between “web-safe” colors and “web-smart” colors is web-safe colors stick to the numbers 0,3,6,9 such as #000333  Web-smart colors stick to double-digit numbers or letters such as #00.55.cc.  Unsafe colors break these rules such as #bdfff2.

Screen quality of the color is not necessarily what you’re looking for.  Let your colors reflect the emotions that you’re trying to portray and go easy on the eyes.  Sharp colors in contrast with each other will vibrate and can hurt one’s eyes.

Cool colors: green, blue

Warm colors: red, orange, brown
